Why Market Mama Exists

Beautiful food should feel both inspiring and deeply nourishing.

What started with seasonal market finds and relationships with local growers slowly grew into something bigger.

Today, Market Mama brings together thoughtful sourcing, functional wellness, and the kind of everyday rituals that make home feel special throughout Los Angeles.

Our Founder

Meet Haley

I didn't start Market Mama because I wanted to start a business. I started paying closer attention. To what I was bringing home, where it came from, and who grew it. The more I learned, the harder it became to settle for food that looked beautiful but didn't really deliver on quality. My standards changed, and naturally, so did the way I shopped.

Over time, I got to know the people behind the food and learned which growers did certain things exceptionally well. I realized pretty quickly that not everything at the market is equal, and not everything deserves a place in my boxes. Friends began asking where I found everything, then asking me to shop for them too. What started as a few favors slowly grew into something people genuinely relied on, not because it was convenient, but because they trusted the choices being made for them.

Around that time, I came across the Japanese concept of Ikigai, the idea that there's a place where what you love, what you're good at, what people need, and what can sustain you all meet. That felt familiar. Because Market Mama was never just about sourcing food. It was about knowing how to choose well.

Today, every box reflects years of relationships, experience, and careful selection. Most people don't have the time to learn every season, know every grower, or sort through hundreds of choices each week. That's the part I love doing.

Nutritional Direction

Meet Ema

As Market Mama grew, it became clear that beautiful ingredients were only part of the story.

A lot of people are already buying organic, shopping at farmers markets, and trying to make better choices, but many still feel overwhelmed by nutrition. They're doing all the things they thought they were supposed to do and still wondering why their energy feels off, why their skin isn't consistent, or why food has become something stressful instead of something enjoyable.

Haley and I connected through a shared love for food that actually means something. Not just how it looks, but where it comes from, how it's grown, and how it feels in your body.

At the time, I was deep in my studies in holistic nutrition (yes, in school again at 36).

For me, it comes back to foundations. Meals that feel grounding, satisfying, and alive. Understanding your body without making food so complicated that you stop enjoying your life.

Today, our Functional Boxes are created for seasons when your body might need a little extra love. Skin that needs extra support. Hormones that feel off. Energy that isn't where it should be. Weeks where you want to eat better, but don't want to guess your way through it.

My philosophy is less about rules and more about awareness. About knowing what you're bringing into your home and why. About opening a box and feeling like it actually makes sense for you.

The wellness world is in its fear era. It's become its own kind of doomscroll, and honestly, it's exhausting.

My role here is to quiet that down.

To bring people back to food that feels simpler, more intuitive, more beautiful, and a lot more enjoyable to live with.
